Unfair Comparisons

What makes a great leader? Presence? Credibility? Probably all of these things & more. But what are they?

If you read enough books, you’d think being outgoing & openly confident.

But what if this just isn’t you? Does this mean you’ll never get to where you want to be?

Not. At. All.

Presence, Credibility; compared to who?

If you’re a keen cook but compare yourself to a Michelin starred chef, then you’re not very good are you.

So why look to those at work who are different than you? What value does it add? None. In fact, it makes you believe even less of yourself.

Look to those who are more like you who have succeeded. What have they done? How have they adapted?

Consider the scale 1 – 10. If you want to have real impact, then you need to be at a minimum 8 in everything.

Think of occasions when you want more impact. What score would you give yourself at the moment?

Less than 8 – what do you need to do to move towards that 8? If it’s a 6, how do you make it a 7? Do it in stages, do it deliberately.

Ask someone for feedback. Tell them before what you want them to look for. Whatever it is, be specific so they can give you valuable feedback. If you want success make sure your comparisons are fair. Give yourself a chance.
